Aware Reports is high-performance “template-based” reporting engine intended for the automated creation of documents in many popular formats, such as Microsoft Excel^TM, Adobe PDF^TM, HTML, TeX, XML, SVG, XSL-FO, PostScript, or arbitrary text.

Aware Reports is a robust, high-speed application available on Unix (Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Linux, Free BSD), Mac OS X, and Windows, suitable for an organization of any size.

When you prepare a document template and a data stream, you specify exactly how you would like your data to be merged with the template and transformed into a report document. The “template-based” approach separates the presentation and business logic, therein allowing your team to reuse your data mining programs and document templates more efficiently.

Another significant advantage of using the templates is that they don’t require any programming—familiar “visual” tools are used to prepare the templates. To create a template for Excel, PDF, and HTML output formats, all you need is the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet program. Additionally, you may create your templates in a textbased format of your choice to produce reports with more sophisticated layouts and functionality.

When it comes to data, Aware Reports is truly ready to accommodate the technology of your choice. The product runs on multiple platforms, supports multi-national character sets (Unicode), and accepts data input in the well-known and economical CSV format. If you’d like to use XML data input, the XSLT processor can easily convert the data into the CSV format.

Developing a report with Aware Reports requires only three simple steps:

• Create a report template.
  
  
• Customize your data retrieval program so that it will get the data from your data sources and produce the data stream in CSV format.
  
  
• Merge the data stream and the template by running Aware Reports stand-alone utility, or your own application that utilizes Aware Reports multi-thread safe C++ or Java API. Usually this step can be set to run automatically in unattended Web or other server environment.
  
  

The current product release provides template processors for Microsoft Excel and arbitrary text formats. Aware Reports works seamlessly with the family of TeX utilities to typeset your reports in Adobe PDF, PostScript, and DVI formats.
